Well, Country Week is done and dusted for another year.
Our team of Mandy Buckley, Jen Edmanson, Kathy Bell, Shelley Clark, Heather Perkins, Jill Pring, Julie Flintoff, Jenni Cottrill, Lynne Toleman and Julie Pavletich played so well against stiff opposition, nearly bringing home the Alice Coltman Cup. Of course this effort cannot be achieved without the help and support of our caddies. Sue Holmes, Anne Lynch, Bernadette Bogacki, Jill Barker & Kathy Dellar were fantastic, providing valuable support to the players. I thank them all for their contribution.
Division 2 was very close with only a game or 2 separating 4 teams on the last day. South Western were right in it but could not prevail, losing our last match to a strong Dalhousie team.
All players are to be congratulated for the way they competed and conducted themselves and I thank them for their effort, not only during the tournament but for all the practice they put in during the year. We blooded a couple of newbies this year and they performed admirably, hopefully they enjoyed it so much that they will front up next year! Team spirit was fantastic throughout the tournament, all becoming close friends by the end of it all and sorry to have to say goodbye.
On behalf of South Western I would like to sincerely thank Captain Jen Edmanson for doing such a marvellous job as usual. Her rapport with the team is obvious, all love her and she in turn loves them. Despite the added burden of Captain, Jen is a great player and her monstrous putt on the 18th on the last day to win her match certainly brought a loud cheer from the girls. Our sincere thanks must also go to Margie Black (Team Manager & selector) and Anne Stokes (selector) for the huge effort they put in during the tournament. They were everywhere; attending to players needs, passing on results and taking care of all the paperwork so Jen could play.
Team selection always produces headaches for the selectors and this year was no exception but they handled it competently with little fuss. During the year we also had Heather Perkins as a selector (until she became a player) and we thank her sincerely for her efforts throughout the year in this role. Sue Hedley was a part of it all as well and enjoyed her first time at Country Week, happy to do anything and assist Margie and Anne wherever possible. Thank you Sue.
So another year is over and we all look forward to next year’s quest to bring home “Alice”.
