Spring Newsletter from President Georgie

As our Lockdown restrictions are easing, the sun is shining and we are getting back into golf I would like to thank all member clubs and their members for the effort and hard work that you are doing to keep our 26 courses maintained and ready for our return to play.

I am sure many clubs have made the most of this period with ongoing course maintenance.

For all those clubs that have had events cancelled we hope 2022 will bring them back in full force. Those who still have club events coming up whether it is your open week or championships, SWGA board sincerely hope that you can proceed even if altered to fit in with COVID regulations at the time. This may be a time to rethink how your events are conducted, be creative and encompassing.

I would like to ask that clubs keep updated with the Victorian Government COVID guidelines that can be found through Golf Australia website or coronavirus.vic.gov au. We all have a responsibility to follow the guidelines even if we disagree.

It is interesting to note that some golf clubs are bringing in a requirement” no vaccination no golf”.

The SWGA events on the calendar will continue as planned and any decision to cancel will not be until as late as possible. Our men’s and women’s operation chairs Graeme Mathers and Wendy Tottenham will keep in touch with the clubs holding these events.

At this stage the junior pennant season will proceed. However, we must be seen as acting in the best interests of the young golfers and their families and as such we should be seeking guidance from all clubs involved before proceeding with junior pennant. It is important to maintain our junior’s interest in the game.

The current junior pennant condition of play is under discussion.Alex Nivarovich, our junior coordinator has identified some changes, mainly to simplify, and these will be presented to the board on Monday 13th for discussion.

The women’s pennant conditions have been restructured and will also be discussed and ratified. I would like to thank all who have participated in the survey and have helped the women’sgolf ops in drafting the new conditions.

There has been a recommendation from some clubs that the men’s pennant draw be adjusted to an improved geographical draw. The men’s golf Operations Committee has taken this on board and will endeavor to meet this request.

As we are heading towards end of the year and our AGM, can I ask any club member who feels they want to participate in our districts future by becoming a board member or a committee member of SWGA golf operations, please consider. Notices will be posted next month.

Finally could I ask all clubs to send through any committee updates and calendar events through to Stacey Thomas admin@swga.com.au  to ensure we get maximum exposure for your club.

All future SWGA and Club events are posted through Golf Box.
