The 2026 Division 2, 3, 4, 5 & Handicap Finals wrapped up at The Sands on Sunday, May 17. Congratulations to all of our winners and a huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event such a success.

Div 2 Mens
Portarlington had perched on top of the ladder most of the season & were quietly confident but edgy about the deciding contest.
After the rains of the evening, the wet areas were attracting a lot of bird life including swans, would that prove to be the omen for the team from Swan Island?
Portarlington took the first couple of scalps but Queenscliff were quick to counter by winning every second game. With 3 games all the spectators & players gathered around the last match to witness Portarlington’s Taylor Cameron edge out Michael Havelberg & seal the deal for the Red Shirts who won 4/3.
Team: Taylor Cameron, Joel Launer, Simon Goggin, Phill Toyne, Dean Jeffery, Sam Beesen, Jack Martin, Ross Moreland, David Walker & J Leeding.

Div 3 Mens
Lorne & Queens Park finished on top of the ladder with the same number of points at the end of the season, their head-to-head battle was a draw.
There were some changes made to the team line up, but would that make the difference required?
The Lorne tail of Keith Alford (7) & Joel McDougal (6) put early wins on the board for their team. Queens Park were rallying quietly & at great speed with very good golf to turn the tables in the other matches. The eagle & birdies made by the Queens Park players proved a bridge too far for the challengers.
Congratulations to all players in particular the 2026 Finals winners Queens Park GC. with a convincing 5/2 victory.
Team: Matt Bruce, Andrew Cronwright, Gary Best, TJ Leigh, Mick Carlon, Kieran Callanan, Pete Norris, Michael Brooke, Justin Edwards & Alex Nivarovich.
Thank you to the very well presented The Sands GC for hosting this final day.

Div 4 Mens
The weather was a little threatening with rain around but, for the bulk of the final between Geelong and Ocean Grove it stayed mostly dry. Geelong players bolstered by their top- class caddies, took an early lead in some of the contests and generally didn't look back. With a 4 -1 lead being achieved & some players having 4 or 5 holes left, a 6 -1 win was on the cards. Geelong got to 5-1 up but a fightback from Ocean Groves final player led to a 5-2 win to Geelong.
Team: Matt Beasley, Simon Morry, James Flynn, Matt Dawson, James Harry, Greg Jones & Dion Beasley

Div 5 Mens
The division 5 Grand Final was held at Clifton Springs, in a matchup between the undefeated Portarlington and Barwon Valley. First off was 16 year old Cooper McMurrich for Portarlington up against Brett Gilbertson. It took a miraculous, one bounce and in chip shot on the last from Brett to win the match 1 up.
Tom Morgan for got the better of his Barwon Valley opponent David Cummins, with both players having a great round. David had the early advantage, shooting even par around the front 9, but Tom was able to wrestle back the match winning on 16.
Ross Moreland, a pennant veteran, held his nerve on the last making a clutch up down, giving Portarlington a 2-1 lead.
>Mathew Hay made a great birdie on the last to even the match against Portarlingtons Isaac Morgan, and when Hayden Bowen and Chris Dwyer couldn’t be split. Portarlington just needed one more victory.
Warren Stephenson and captain Matt Davies both won their matches in comfortable fashion for Portarlington against Lachlan Hewitt and Uriah Green respectively. This ultimately gave Portarlington a 5-2 victory, however it was tighter than score line suggested.
It was a great day for Portarlington, celebrating two undefeated seasons in Division 2 & 5.

Handicap Mens
Division 6 came down crucial moments, poised at 2 all, Wayne Colbourne and Matty Whitehand both won for Queens Park, and Phil Shay and Robert Schammer duly won for Queenscliff. Peter Bell (Queens Park) and Marty Christesen (Queenscliff) fought a tense final match with Bell sealing the win 3up and 1 to play. Wayne Colbourne Captain of Victorious Queen’s Park team said “this is reason why we play “and the camaraderie within the division 6 is second to none, the match was played in the best of spirit. Typical of the season.
