Golf clubs make significant contributions to their local communities through the provision of facilities that bring people together to share more than a round of golf. It provides an opportunity for all ages to participate in a sport that has no bounds. It is available to all ages, all genders and all abilities and affords the opportunity to learn important life skills that include:
- Respect
- Integrity
- Etiquette
- Honesty
This is why in March 2022, the SWGA formed a partnership with the Geelong Community Foundation where a Group Sub Fund was established to raise some much, needed funds for their Grants program.
South Western Golf covers and area from Apollo Bay through Greater Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula. The Board felt this was an ideal platform where golf brings people together, it provides opportunities for increased social reaction/interaction and a place to meet like-minded people from various walks of life.
We at SWGA see a natural fit between the Geelong Community Foundation, a valuable community-based facility operating in the south west of Victoria and the SWGA and its Member clubs.
This exciting venture that we have entered into marks the start of an important and even greater involvement within the community where golf clubs are located. We wish to assist, grow and nurture community involvement within our 26 member clubs and their 12,500 members.
An important aspect is to ensure our communities understand the valuable work the Geelong Community Foundation undertakes within our communities.
We are also looking at our governing body, Golf Australia to assist us in our endeavours.
