SWGA Standard Event Conditions 11 April 2022
This morning bright and early  the final of the Betty Kernot foursomes knock out event was held at Clifton Springs. The weather could not have been better and the course was in fabulous condition. The game was a fitting end to the very challenging Betty Kernot format with the  two teams fighting it out after already playing three previous rounds. Both teams showed great nerve and skill to get to the final.
Portarlington team, Alicia Clark and Jennifer Champion snatched an early lead and led by two until the Torquay pair of Micha Evans and Jenny Cottrill slowly wound them in with some steady golf and mastering the very tricky greens. By the twelfth hole the pair had hit their straps and were powering home.
Congratulations to all the teams who competed and well done Torquay for teaming up so well and winning the prestigious Betty Kernot trophy for 2022.

2021 South West Golf Association Women’s Clinic

The 2021 SWGA Annual Women’s Clinic was held last Friday at Barwon Heads Golf Club. 75 women from across our 26 members clubs, with handicap range of 25-45 dodged predicted inclement weather to have the opportunity to get expert tuition from some of our district finest Professional Golfers and A Grade Players.

A great deal of laughter could be heard as new skills were learnt, old habits corrected and general fatigue by the day’s end gave all participants something to take home.

The morning session covered 3 of the 5 elements (chipping, pitching, bunkers, long play and putting) after which a rest and lunch in the clubhouse was welcomed by all. Signs of women having a good day were evident by the level of noise in the Links Room.

The afternoon sessions covered the final 2 elements and then it was back to the clubhouse for those interested in a Q &A session with the Pros.

A big thank you goes to our Pros Tybin Lawson, Michelle Beecroft (BHGC), Laurie Chew (Lonsdale Links) Daniel Materazzo (Clifton Springs) along with our own A Grade player Chair of Women’s Golf Ops Wendy Tottenham (Curlewis). Thank you also goes to the Pro assistants Zara Brooke, Jay Magee, Carol Reid, Ann Manuel and Ange Foote. All the women were given individual attention.

The day would not have been a success without the generous help of Vicki Hannah, Kath Kerr, Helen Fitzpatrick and Fiona Scott picking up the balls, keeping the groups moving between each tuition and Stacey Thomas for photography.

Finally to Bec Bain, Golf Ops Committee member whose planning, organizing and execution on the day made the day a great success.

There will be notes available from the sessions shortly, so keep your eye on the website.

Women’s golf in our district is thriving and as one BHGC member was quoted to say as he was trying to chip on practice area “where did all these women come from I didn’t think golf had so many women players?”

Good golfing,
